IBS 2022 in Perth: Presentation of applied mining biotechnology from Saxony
G.E.O.S. presents results from two research projects at the 24th International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium in Perth
The 24th International Biohydrometallurgy Symposium in Perth/Australia is themed Biotechnology for resource sustainability and circular economy. The forum brings together international representatives from industry, research, innovation, education and governments to share knowledge on the latest scientific and technological developments in the field of biotechnology in mining and to discuss innovative solutions and best-practice approaches.
Based on the latest discoveries in biotechnology, chemistry, mineralogy and engineering, mining biotechnology can benefit the resource industry by value creation from low-grade ores and mining wastes, providing tools for mineral exploration and environmental monitoring, and mitigating harmful environmental impacts.
On this topic, Dr Jana Pinka presented two ongoing research projects at IBS 2022 in which G.E.O.S. is involved. She is co-author of the presentation "The MiCCuR project for improved copper recovery from chalcopyrite". She also presents the pilot plant project ReMiningPlus, which deals with the recovery of valuable elements from tailings with simultaneous environmental remediation.
