NordLink goes into operation

NordLink electricity highway was officially put into operation on 27 May 2021 - G.E.O.S. successfully completes project management and monitoring services

With a "digital push of a button", German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel and Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg, among others, officially put NordLink into operation on 27 May 2021. The "green cable" serves to link German wind energy with Norwegian hydropower and is the connection of two perfectly matching systems.

On behalf of the transmission system operator TenneT, G.E.O.S. supported the NordLink project in the German section of the land cable route from 2014 to 2021 as a reliable partner with customised project management, planning, construction supervision and OHS management services.

At peak times, around 30 G.E.O.S. engineers were deployed on site at the construction site in Schleswig-Holstein and at the company's locations in Halsbrücke near Freiberg, Chemnitz and Lehrte for this project. With the completion of the power connection, G.E.O.S.'s work is largely done. The on-time and on-budget realisation of the project was emphasised by all speakers during the opening ceremony.
