Support for international cooperation in geosciences
G.E.O.S.-Experte in “Panel of Experts” der European Federation of Geologists aufgenommen
EurGeol Kersten Kühn, Head of Department at G.E.O.S., was accepted into the "Panel of Experts on Minerals and their sustainable use" of the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) in June 2023. G.E.O.S. thus supports the professional voice of the EFG as the largest European professional organisation for geoscientists in international cooperation in this sector.
Die EFG bietet mit ihren Expertenpanels eine Plattform zur Förderung der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Fachleuten aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern, die auf demselben Gebiet der Geowissenschaften arbeiten. Sie wurden eingerichtet, um den europäischen Institutionen, internationalen Nichtregierungsorganisationen und Berufsverbänden fachlich fundierte Informationen und Hilfestellung zu bieten.
Aufgabe der Expertenpanels ist es, die Wahrnehmung der EFG zu erhöhen, die Bedeutung der Geowissenschaften für die Gesellschaft hervorzuheben und die Entscheidungsfindung der EU in diesem Bereich zu unterstützen. Die Experten arbeiten in den Gremien auf freiwilliger Basis mit, sind aber an einer Vielzahl von Aktivitäten auf höchster Ebene beteiligt.
EFG currently has a total of 9 of such expert panels:
- geological storage of CO2 and hydrogen
- education
- geological heritage
- geotechnics
- geothermal energy
- hydrogeology
- mineral resources and their sustainable use
- natural geohazards
- soil protection
The "Panel of Experts in Minerals and their sustainable use" is:
- the EFG's expert group on all topics related to raw materials,
- the European Commission's expert group on raw materials supply and risk management in the extractive sector,
- the European Commission's operational expert group in the framework of the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials,
- Supporter of the implementation and international recognition of the Pan-European Code on Geological Reserves and Resources (PERC) as a CRIRSCO draft international standard/code; and
- Contributor to the United Nations Framework Classification of Mineral Resources ("UNFC").
