Environmental Information System of Wismut GmbH

Since 2002, the G.E.O.S. branch WISUTEC has been developing and perfecting the environmental information system of Wismut GmbH on the basis of the AL.VIS software suite. The system serves as a central access point to the data and information arising from uranium mining rehabilitation.

AL.VIS/W combines data storage and complex searches in a company-wide, standardised, web-based system. All components and extensions of AL.VIS are used for the search for

• • Monitoring data (water, air, geotechnics, radiation protection, etc.)
  • Object Data (waste rock piles, buildings, operating facilities, etc.)
  • Documents, permits, secondary regulations
  • Land information
  • Surveying data and
  • GIS Data.

A total of 25 specialised information systems are integrated into the system. This allows for both effective data maintenance and comprehensive research. For example, AL.VIS/W provides users with information on about 3,500 groundwater and surface water monitoring sites with a total annual volume of about 30,000 samples for research purposes. AL.VIS/W works together with a powerful web GIS. The spatial information on the remediation project covers the federal states of Saxony and Thuringia. The system is used by about 250 employees of Wismut GmbH and by licensing authorities in the participating federal states.
