Route planning for the HelWin2 land cable route

In June 2015, TenneT launched the HelWin2 project, the third DC connection for wind farms in the eastern North Sea. This is a 690 MW grid connection for several wind farms at sea off Helgoland, which is around 130 kilometres long. Of this, 85 kilometres are submarine cables and 45 kilometres are land cables. The energy generated is transported to the onshore converter station in Büttel. HelWin2 can supply more than one million households with clean wind energy.

G.E.O.S. was contracted with the route planning for this project.
